Hi There, Fun stuff. I'm from the Arizona Mormon line. I see from your pdf book of 1999 that you've got all the info on Christopher Philemon MERRILL (AFN:1ZX4-ZG) (number 7742 in your book). But, nothing about his descendents. This is my grandfather's father. Do you have the info? If not, I'm happy to provide it. My grandfather, Bruce Thorpe Merrill, is still kicking at 92 and likes to talk about himself, so he might be willing to fill in some fun details and strange family stories about life in southeastern AZ back in the day. Thanks for your work!
Answer: Kathryn:
Thank you for writing.
"A Merrill Memorial", was written in 1927 and is out of print, and was posted so folks would have access to the data, more or less the bible on descendants of immigrant Nathaniel of Newbury MA. Since it was written in 1927, it includes nothing since.
Let us introduce our selves. We are Howard and Jean Merrill. For twenty five years we have been trying to database the Merrill/Merrell family nationwide from the original immigrants down to the present day for all immigrant lines. So far we have info on over 60,000 Merrill males plus their wives and daughters in our database, but we estimate there have been well over a100,000 so we have a long way to go, and need and appreciate all the help we can get, particularly with the later generations. We use this database strictly to try and help folks trace their Merrill roots. Be assured that no info on living individuals will become internet accessible from us. While our database is not internet searchable, we will be glad to search it for anybody and share what we find at no cost. All we ask is that folks share their Merrill data with us so that we can expand our database and do a better job of helping solve Merrill lineage problems.
Our off-line database does have info on Philemon Christophers children, and some on his grandchildren, but we would very much like to bring his line down to the present day. Back before the LDS library went to computers, we visited the library in SLC and copied all the Merrill family group sheets they had at that time. We have been back several times since doing Merrill research. But to get the information on current Merrills we have to depend on our correspondents to provide us with the data. So glad to hear that your grandfather is still around.
Are you perhaps related to the Sorenson's that are so active in DNA collection, Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation?

Hi,
Were the 2 Merrill boys on Little Round Top in Gettysberg Brothers? Who were their mother and father? James and William were their first names.
Thankyou
Answer: Roy:
While we have an index of civil war soldiers [the merrill section] from each state, it does not give what battles they were in . Neither have we identified the families of most of them. We assume you found their names listed on a monument on Little Round Top. Does it give the unit to which they belonged? That might help. At our local battlefield site, Port Hudson [LA], they have a computer program that allows you to look for soldiers that fought there, their unit, and what their disposition was [killed in action, discharged, deserted, etc]. We looked at the website for Gettysburg, and it said there was no such thing at Gettyburg - to try the National Archives in Washington.
Sorry we couldn't help with the info given.

Hi Howard, please send us a contact email. I had to get my laptop fixed and lost emails. DNA results show my father is Halogroup G which is the same as Nathaniel Merrill. We're still trying to understand the data. Would you be able to look at the data and help us understand it? Thank you.
Answer: Lisa:
Sorry you lost your e-mail addresses. We will be glad to help in any way we can. Glad your dad was tested. He should be Haplotype G since the Y chromosome is passed from father to son, essentially unchanged, over many many generations. All of Nathaniel's direct male descendants should share the same DNA pattern.

Question: Jason Merrill wrote:
Hi there!
I'm trying to find information about the parents of an ancestor of mine, Joseph C. Merrill, born June 1828 somewhere in New Hampshire and married in 1856 to Sally E Merrill (maiden name unknown.) Joseph and Sally settled in in Franklin County, NY, and while there is reasonably good documentation of the family line after that, but I'm hitting a dead end in trying to find any information about anything before Joseph Merrill's migration to New York. I can't find an obituary or death record. I've gotten hold of his military service records and census records, but I can't find anything with any information on him before he came to New York. I'm pretty new to genealogy research, and I really have no idea how to get around the wall I appear to have hit. Can you give me any pointers? I would greatly appreciate any help you're able to render.
Thanks, Jason Merrill
Answer: Jason:
Thank you for your query. Your Joseph C (9) Merrill was b. 1828 June 21 in Warren, Grafton, NH and d. 1923 Mar 16, in Franklin, Franklin, NY. We found him in Franklin in 1860, 1880, 1900, 1910 and 1920, but could not find him in 1870. He m. Sally Heath, probably in Warren [b. NH 1837 Sep]. He was the son of True and Mary Albert. His lineage goes back Joseph C (9), True (8), Stevens (7), Jonathan (6), Stevens (5), Abel (4,3,2), immigrant Nathaniel (1). More details are available.
We know that Joseph had three children: Asa True, Charles G, and a third child believed to be a daughter, b. ca 1861 and m. before the 1880 census. Since we couldn't find the family in 1870, we don't know this child's name or anything about her. Do you? From which son do you descend?

You are our closest correspondent relative, for we are also descended from Stevens (7) above. We would greatly appreciate details on Joseph C's Merrill surname descendants down to the present day.
