Question: Allison Merrill wrote:

I saw a message regarding Orlando Bryce Merrill and his son Paul Felshaw Merrill posted in June, 2009. I am Paul Felshaw Merrill's daughter-in-law. I am married to his youngest son. I could contribute some info through this line if you need it.

Answer: Allison:

Thank you so much for writing. We would very much like to take you up on your kind offer for info on Paul Felshaw, his family and his descendants down to the present. Be assured that we will not publish or give out info on living individuals. If anyone asks for such info we will refer them back to the one who gave us the info, so you can control who gets the info. All we have on Paul is his b. date from LDS family group sheets copied in SLC before the library there went to computers.

Let us introduce our selves. We are Howard and Jean Merrill. For thirty years we have been trying to database the Merrill/Merrell family nationwide from the original immigrants down to the present day for all immigrant lines. So far we have info on over 60,000 Merrill males plus their wives and daughters in our database, but we estimate there have been well over a 100,000 so we have a long way to go, and need and appreciate all the help we can get, particularly with the later generations. We use this database strictly to try and help folks trace their Merrill roots. Be assured that no info on living individuals will become internet accessible from us.

While our database is not internet searchable, we will be glad to search it for anybody and share what we find at no cost. All we ask is that folks share their Merrill data with us so that we can expand our database and do a better job of helping solve Merrill lineage problems.

Question: Joe van Wagnenl wrote:

We visited Newbury this past summer and tried to locate nathanial merrill's grave stone with no luck.. we have seen online that one of the merrill ancestors made a new gravestone do you know where it is located?

Answer: Joe:

We do not know where Nathaniel (1) was buried. We did not find it when we visited Newburyport several years ago. We do not know of some descendant erecting a later gravestone. They may be referring to a monument to early settlers of Newbury on the lower green in Newbury Old Town which I think includes Nathaniel's name, but this monument was erected in 1905. The monument is topped by a representation of the ship "Mary and John", on which some of the early settlers may have come, but not Nathaniel. Nathaniel was not here in in July 1638 when his brother John acquired a house lot of four acres for Nathaniel, next to his lot on "The Neck". Nathaniel was still in England for the baptism of his daughter Susan in Dec 1638. It is assumed that he came in the spring of 1639, as soon as weather and the health of mother and daughter would permit travel. At the time of his death he was apparently renting from John Cutting, rather than a house of his own [He owed Cutting 5L in rent}. He may not have built a new home after he was displaced from Newbury when the town moved "en mass" from Newbury to Newburyport in 1643.

Hope this helps,

Question: Billie Hamilton wrote:

Mary Elizabeth Merrill b1818 d 1907 Greenville Texas m James Redford Horton are my great great grandparents. Is there any detailed information on Timothy Merrill m Elizabeth Bradshaw. (besides the usual born/died) I have lots of information on Mary Elizabeth Merrill but not much beyond (her obit states "She was also a grand daughter of Benjamin F. Merrill who refused to sign allegiance to the British Crown and was condemnded..."

Answer: Billie:

We do not have a lot of information on Timothy (5) Merrill other than what we picked up from the census and tidbits from various correspondents. His lineage is William (4), Benjamin (3) William (2,1). Immigrant William (1) came to Staten Island NY along with his brother Richard ca 1860. He later mover to Hopewell NJ. His grandson, Benjamin (3) moved to Rowan Co NC where he became Captain of the NC Regulators. He was hanged as an example for opposing the tyrannical policies of NC Governor Tyron.  His son, William, m. Sally Hayden in 1773. He is listed in Rowan Co NC in the 1790 census. He sold land in in Rowan co in 1803 and moved to Warren Co, KY where he apparently d., for his widow is listed there in 1810.  His son, timothy (5) is also listed in Warrren Co, KY in 1810 with wife and 3 son under 10.  In the census prior to 1850 only the head of Household is listed by name with everybody else in an age bracket, male or female. Good confirmatory evidence, but not much help in determining the childrens name. Timothy was in Carroll Co, TN in 1830 and 40, and in 1850 he was in Fannin Co TX, living with his son Alexander F. In the 1850 census, Timothy was listed as 72, b. VA. He and two sisters, Peggy Hayden and Betsey Smith were all baptized [probably well after their birth] on 1784 Nov 27 in Goochland Co, VA [ Where Sally Hayden was reportedly from].

The children we have for Timothy and Elizabeth Bradshaw [m. 1801 Nov 30 in Rowan Co, NC] are: Wiley B, ca 1805; Austin D, ca 1806;  William H, ca 1808;  Benjamin, ca 1810;  Elizabeth [d. young];  Nancy, ca 1816 [d. young?]; Mary Elizabeth 1818 Oct 23;  Robert, ca1820, d. young;  Alexander F, 1823 Dec 25;  Mumford S, ca 1825;  Richmond P, 1828 Feb 29.

Do you have additional info on these siblings?  Or exact dates for Mary Elizabeth's m. or d.?
